• Origins of NLP Presuppositions is the 8 major beliefs.
• What are the Major Beliefs with an explanation of each of them.
The 8 major beliefs are based on recognising the beliefs that successful people (in fact, geniuses) in every field of human endeavor operated out of, due to which they were successful.
Hence, when people are striving to become more successful, can embody and live life through these beliefs, they too will automatically become much more successful in their field of human endeavor.
NLP Presuppositions is a topic often taught in the NLP courses in India and across the globe.
When I (Abhay Thhakkar) attended the NLP training courses in Spain which were facilitated by Frank Pucelik (co-founder of NLP), he shared that the NLP Presuppositions were formed on the basis of 9 major beliefs.
In fact, he said that certain aspects of Neuro Linguistic Programming were predominantly contributed by him and his team of ‘meta kids’. He said that he and ‘meta kids’ would test the NLP techniques before Dr. John Grinder and Richard Bandler would present it to the NLP world during their NLP courses. Thereafter, there is also HNLP was developed which as well had its own set of HNLP Presuppositions.
Hence, on this page, I have shared the 8 major beliefs, which Frank Pucelik told us in his NLP courses in Spain.
1- Communication = Manipulation
Neuro Linguistic Programming doesn’t teach you to be manipulative.
It teaches you to be a professional manipulator.
What matters is the results you create.
If you are in the sensory range of somebody, you can influence them.
All interactions involve communication. You cannot not communicate. A person dead is communicating he/she is dead!
Natural communicators are victims of the world. Professional communicators create the life they want.
2 – Trust your subconscious mind -
You must have heard about the wisdom and power of the subconscious mind. Isn't it?
In fact, your subconscious mind is like the inner GPS that has always been guiding you towards a better quality of life. Are you listening to it?
3- Be congruent –
Word must match the behaviour. You wouldn't want to be called a hypocrite, wouldn't you? Hence, become aware of how congruent you are with you are inner self.
It is important to listen to our body and mind and take actions accordingly.
4 – Map isn’t the territory -
We live our life through the filters of our past memories, beliefs and values.
As a result, these filters distort, delete and generalize our maps of the world.
Hence, our maps we have built could be far away from what the reality is.
Therefore, we interact with the maps we have built of the world and not the world itself.
Once we recognise this, we begin to become aware that what we believe is true of the world, may not always be true. It could be a perception that we are holding. Thereafter, we can become more receptive to the point of views of others.
5- Resistance is power.
Humans have 2 driving instincts that are most powerful –
1- Survival instinct
2- Adaptation (includes learning)
We are a learning champion of the planet. We constantly adapt/learn unless the survival instinct has kicked in. If resistance has kicked in, it means the survival instinct has kicked in, which has a fight/flight/freeze mechanism embedded in it.
Since resistance has the survival instinct in it, it can have power.
Successful people know how to channelise power.
6- Receptivity is proportion to the respect.
The receptivity of others to be open to learning from you depends on the respect you create/created through your reputation and success. Hence, a key in rapport is to earn the respect of the listener of your communication.
Successful people like Ratan Tata, have earned the respect of people. Hence, people are receptive to his communication and learning from him.
7 – Respect every individual
Each individual thinks and feels differently. Every individual communicates differently. Every individual may have a different social or/and economical or/and education or/and religion or/or regional background. Every individual has a different past. Let’s learn to respect the individuality.
8- Difference is beauty -
We like people who are like us. However, successful people understand that each individual is unique and has their own strength and through that, is where growth and development come in life.
Hence, acknowledge the differences in people and learn from them.
